Tutorial Island

Tutorial Island was a short series of pages that all members had to go through in order to post. It was implemented on 26 March, 2006 to reduce the growing spam problem, and all existing members were retroactively required to complete it. A number of members found the tutorial's content to be humorous. Tutorial Island was phased out on 21, February 2007.

Slides

(1) Introduction

On the right side was an image of Zangetsu from the series Bleach saying "Why hello there!"

Welcome to tutorial island! Mandatory for everyone. Please read through this, and then you will be able to post on the forums. Thank you!

Read this carefully! It's pretty short, so it should be no problem. Press continue below.

(2) Good writing

At the top of the page:

Real Member Quote: "I just ask my English teacher yesterday what grade do I have now? He said I have a A now"

Content of the page:

We like good writing. You know, the stuff with punctuation, capitalization, etc.

We hate this: i like eating cheese its so good!!!! i wish I had more to eet all the time

[Kir from King of Bandit Jing graphic:] That sentence gave me bad constipation.

Stupid people write badly. As much as you get an "A" in English class, no one will look highly upon you with your writings of "i run nayked threw my house."

We like this: I like eating cheese because it's so good! I only wish I had more to eat all the time.

(3) Useful writing

At the top of the page:

Real Member Quote: "maybe if [the CIA] didn't kill abe lincoln"

An image of Kon from Bleach was on the right side.

Post useful messages.

It may be great that you like Bleach, the anime. (If you don't, insert your own anime.)

An idiot says this: bleach is so cool

Haha! That's great. A hundred other people are saying the exact same thing! Because you can write doesn't mean anyone will want to listen.

Write something useful. If you can't think of anything, ask "Why?" and answer it.

The cool write this: Bleach is just amazing! The plot is free from those cursed fillers, the characters are well developed, and the music is truly unique. First starting off, the series is really slow though. After ten to fifteen episodes, you will become addicted.

(4) Spam is bad

Keep to the topic. Don't be discussing whales in a topic about forests.

[Picture of a whale wedged between two tree trunks]

In a topic about monkeys: I find pleasure in licking tables whenever I can.

Ah yes, you-licking-tables has a lot to do with monkeys. Really. (Not that we needed to know anyways.) Spam (not the food) are irrelevant messages. This includes unwanted advertisements, etc. Bottom line: we don't need any of it.

Members generally found the picture of the whale wedged between two trunks to be the funniest part of the tutorial. The picture was captioned "I am stuck =(".

(5) Yay!
