The Day of Infamy

On 22 February, 2005, the forum posts database became corrupted and approximately 200,000 posts were lost, and the day became to be called The Day of Infamy. Immediate efforts to repair the corruption with the database system's repair table tool resulted in the destruction of the database. An old backup was restored, therefore restoring roughly half (100,000) of the posts.

Temporary Forums

In lieu of an immediate resolution, a temporary forum was set up on The Risen Realm with a general discussion area, a roleplay section, a fanclub section, and a Random Ramblings section.

One of the members, Narcissa, tried to help and calm everyone but received some criticism as a result. She created another temporary forum on her own and this sparked criticism from various key figures in the community such as Shugo-kun. Some claimed that Narcissa was trying to take the visitors of Keiichi Anime Forever for herself.

Backup Restoration

The old backup consisting of 100,000 posts was restored from 26 December, 2004. This resulted in a two month gap in posts. When viewing posts on the forum that were lost due to this event, an error message is shown informing readers about the situation. These threads that contained zero posts (the topics database and the posts database are separate) became known as phantom topics.

The Effects

Many vital pinned topics were deleted. Some fanclubs were completely emptied. Hundreds of pages of roleplay had completely disappeared. The Manga Reader coordination project was completely lost. However, some were able use to the "Work Offline" feature in their browser to recover some pages as sk89q recommended, but this did not amount to much.

Additionally, many members chose not to come back as a result.
