Otaku Karaoke was a online karaoke service planned for Keiichi Anime Forever. The web-based software used Adobe Flash Player to play the music and JavaScript+HTML to draw the subtitles. It read regular Substation Alpha (ssa) subtitle files and played MPEG Layer-3 (mp3) files.
Originally, the software for Otaku Karaoke was created as an experiment in 2005/2006. However, it was apparent there would be some popularity for it, and a thread was created to survey interest on 15 July, 2006. Even with the large number of positive responses, the project was put to rest. Before the idea was disregarded, plans were in order to contact various subbing groups for their subtitle files. A promotion video was created for this purpose to show it off to fansubbers.
On 14 May, 2008, Otaku Karaoke was given a rush-release. It only had the three original songs on opening day. The code was left virtually the same, and the short KAF Karaoke introduction video, created around July 2006, was put in.
