Grammar filter

The grammar filter was a set of programmed rules that required posts in the forum be of a certain length. The filter did not enforce by the number of characters, however. Limits could be defined by the number of words or the number of phrases/sentences. The filter was implemented on 25 March, 2006 to control the growing number of spammy posts. Length requirements were lifted 11 April, 2007.

Phrases were delimited by periods, exclamation marks, question marks, semicolons, and commas. Sentences were delimited by the same characters as phrases but without the comma. Members who did not wish to meet the requirement put excessive periods or commas in their posts to bypass the filter. Members were harshly warned for these violations.

On the same day that the grammar filter was put in, a method for members to be granted a grammar filter exemption was put into place.
